Corning Incorporated today introduced Corning Lab Reactor System 2 as the latest product line available in its Advanced-Flow™ Reactor (AFR) portfolio at CPHI China. The Lab Reactor System 2 – featuring a laboratory dosing unit and the choice of a Lab Reactor unit or a Lab Photo Reactor unit – is designed to help customers develop and process chemicals more efficiently using inherently safer flow-through technology, adding new features to make the Lab Reactor System 2 easier for customers to use.
As a compact, plug-and-play unit, the Lab Reactor System 2 allows customers in academic, laboratory, and industrial settings to install this new system in minutes to begin R&D work using flow chemistry. The Corning AFR team leveraged the company’s continuous innovation approach to design the Corning Lab Rector System 2, which features units that provide seamless scale-up capabilities with the existing AFR portfolio. The Lab Rector System 2 includes:
Laboratory reactor unit – this solution takes advantage of Corning’s glass fluidic modules, characterized by the “heart cell” design – enabling exceptional mixing and heat transfer as well as effective reaction. Additionally, the Lab Reactor unit features an optional cooling coil that can be used as a thermal shutoff in chemical reactions to optimize yields and avoid impurities. This unit features an integrated camera to provide a real-time view of the mixing area to help customers efficiently observe, adjust and process chemicals.
Laboratory photoreactor unit – this unit is designed to support flow photochemistry applications with integrated high-intensity LED illumination, efficient light penetration to provide consistent and uniform reactions, and a wide range of wavelengths available to tune system reactivity.
Laboratory dosing unit – this latest dosing solution allows for a constant, non-pulsing flow of reagents or starting materials, essential for flow chemistry. This unit features real-time graphs, includes an easy-to-use touchscreen interface to provide an enhanced user experience, and offers high chemical durability enabled by metal-free machining to support a broad range of reactions.
“We have worked closely with our customers to incorporate updates into the Lab Rector System 2 that help researchers and chemists do their jobs more efficiently” She said Olivier Lobet, Global Product Development and Technical Lead, Corning Advanced-Flow Reactor Technologies. “This consistent collaboration with innovation-driven customers, both academic and industrial, over the past two decades has allowed Corning’s AFR business to grow and continue to offer its customers a more efficient way to develop workflow processes for continuous production of chemicals using inherently safer technology.”
Corning announced this new system at the annual CPHI China exhibition in Shanghai from June 19 to 22. The Lab Reactor System 2 and other AFR technologies will be on display at booth W5G02.
AFR customers can now place orders for Lab Reactor System 2 through Corning’s regional sales channels and receive quality aftersales service through Corning’s regional sales and technical teams around the world.
Corning’s AFR business has more than two decades of continuous flow manufacturing experience in the fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and new materials industries, with more than 800 global equipment installations to date. Compared to traditional batch chemical processing, Corning’s AFR technology is an inherently safer technology that can promote higher-quality chemical processing and reduced risk of process hazards. Additional benefits include energy savings, higher efficiency of chemical synthesis, lower production costs and reduced environmental impact.
